Nostalgia in Every Bite

Is there anything more nostalgic than a McDonald’s Happy Meal? That little box with the golden arches handle and a toy inside was peak childhood joy. The excitement of getting takeout for a special treat is a memory we all cherish. But now, as adults, we can recreate those cherished moments at home.

Recreating a Classic: Filet-O-Fish Copycat Recipe

Bringing back one of my McDonald’s favorites, the classic Filet-O-Fish sandwich, with a homemade touch. It's not only a delicious nod to fast-food memories but also surprisingly easy for you to make. Let's go on this culinary journey together and recreate the magic of the beloved Filet-O-Fish sandwich at home.

Crafting Your Crispy Fish Sandwich

Trimming and Marinating Your Fish

Begin by trimming your white fish of choice into square filets. I prefer haddock for its mild flavor, but cod or pollock are excellent alternatives. Marinate the fish in a blend of salt, pepper, granulated garlic, yellow mustard, and buttermilk.

Creating the Crispy Fish Coating

Prepare the dry batter by combining seasoned flour and crushed panko bread crumbs. This mixture ensures a light, crispy bite. While the fish rests before frying, let's whip up a homemade tartar sauce that elevates the overall flavor.

Fried Fish Sandwich Perfection

Fry the battered fish filets until they achieve a golden brown perfection. It doesn’t take long for fish to cook so only a few minutes is all it takes. At the same time, get ready to toast your brioche buns to a buttery goodness.

Toasted Buttery Brioche Sandwich Buns

Let's move on to the next part of our homage to the fast-food classic – the brioche buns. Picture soft, golden buns with crispy edges, just like Mickey D’s used to have, that become the base for our throwback sandwich creation. It's all about enhancing our Filet-O-Fish journey.

Assembling a Fast Food Copycat Masterpiece

Top your buns with the freshly fried fish filets, tartar sauce, a slice of melty American cheese, and a generous amount of crunchy shredded lettuce for the perfect, nostalgic bite!
